Campus visits (including class visits) prior to Admitted Student Days
Many admitted students and their guests (usually one or two family members) elect to visit campus on the Friday before Admitted Student Days in order to attend classes (students only) and meet faculty, coaches, and conductors.
We are eager to assist in crafting a schedule that meets your needs. We’ll have a number of class visit options for Friday, April 25 (before the April 26 Admitted Student Day). Please use the registration form to indicate what you would like to do while on campus. Requests for class visits, faculty meetings, or other Friday events need to be completed by 8:00am Thursday, April 17 to allow us the time necessary to meet your needs.
You can indicate your interest in an overnight visit on the online registration form. You will be “camping out” in your host student’s room, so you should plan to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towel, and any required toiletry/shower items. Plan to arrive between 5 and 9 p.m., when we will arrange for you to meet your host. If you are already on campus earlier in the day we will schedule your meeting with the overnight host accordingly.
Please submit your request for a Friday overnight visit no later than April 17 for the April 26 ASD.
Student transportation between the airport and campus
When a student travels with a parent, we suggest making independent transportation arrangements to and from Northfield, which allows you maximum flexibility. Find accommodation information for your family here.
If the student is traveling alone, we can schedule complimentary transportation (one-way or round trip) once we have received flight information from the online registration form. The shuttle will be scheduled to pick you up within two hours of your arrival at the airport. About one week before your scheduled flight you will receive details about your shuttle time and how to connect with your driver (including a cell number as well as an admissions emergency contact).
In addition, a St. Olaf Admissions team member will staff a table in the baggage claim area (MSP-Terminal 1) to answer all of your questions upon arrival. The St. Olaf table will be located across from carousels 5 and 6 in the baggage claim area.
Once you arrive on campus, you will be met by your host or an Admissions staff member.
For transportation back to the airport on Saturday, shuttles will generally be scheduled so that students arrive at the airport at least 80 minutes before flight departure.
A Grand reception for parents
Parents of admitted students are invited to attend a wine and hors d’oeuvre reception at the Grand Hotel in Minneapolis on Friday, April 11, or Friday, April 25, 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Parents will receive a separate invitation.
A special St. Olaf rate of $139/night (plus applicable taxes) is available if you are interested in staying overnight at the Grand for the nights of:
- April 25, 26, and/or 27 for those attending Admitted Student Day 2
To reserve a room, please contact the Grand directly (800-546-7866 and ask for the St. Olaf College room block. These rooms will be held until March 26 for Admitted Student Day 1 on April 12 and until April 9 for the Admitted Student Day 2 on April 26.
A shuttle service will be provided between the St. Olaf campus and the Grand as follows (these options are available on the registration form):
Friday night reception: If your student is requesting an overnight stay, drop him or her off at Buntrock Commons and then hop aboard the 4:30 p.m. shuttle to the Grand. The shuttle will return to St. Olaf after the reception. Overnight parking is available on campus.
Attending the Saturday program: We will provide transportation for parents from the Grand at 7 a.m. in time for program check-in at 8 a.m. The afternoon return shuttle will leave campus for the Grand at 3 p.m
St. Olaf College is delighted to offer students and parents these special opportunities to visit campus. Contact the Admissions Office (800-800-3025) with questions.
We look forward to seeing you in April.
