Runner’s World magazine profiles St. Olaf cross country standout

WintheiserGrant400x240Runner’s World magazine recently spoke with Grant Wintheiser ’15, who led the St. Olaf College men’s cross country team to a national championship this season.

“Our goal since last year was to get on the medal stand as a team, so that’s top four,” Wintheiser tells the magazine. “We knew we had the guys who could do it, but definitely winning wasn’t on our minds at the start of the season.”

The St. Olaf men’s cross country team won the NCAA Division III Championship at the end of November, besting perennial power North Central of Illinois. The magazine notes that head coach Phil Lundin arrived at St. Olaf in 2008 and has guided the team to nationals five of his first six years at the helm.

The team had four All-America finishes at the national championships, led by Wintheiser in third and Jake Brown ’15 in eighth, on its way to claiming the first NCAA team title in school history.
