Student’s start-up featured on Chicago news site

CrowleyMadeline450x300“It’s like match.com for performers and local businesses,” St. Olaf College student Madeline Crowley ’14 tells a Chicago news site about the online project she’s developing this summer to connect musicians with businesses looking to host them.

She developed the start-up, called The Busk, this spring as part of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest’s Arts, Entrepreneurship, and Urban Studies program in Chicago. Crowley worked with two others students in the program to research the idea and begin compiling the project.

“Her concept is simple: street musicians want some guaranteed dollars, and businesses willing to support those musicians for a $20-per-hour flat rate are more likely to draw in the crowds,” the story notes.

Crowley, a California native who is living in Hyde Park this summer, plans to develop a full-blown website for the business before graduating from St. Olaf.
