Weddings and Receptions

Whether your wedding is large or small, formal or casual, St. Olaf College offers lovely venues and services to help make it memorable.

Renting Boe Memorial Chapel:

Boe Memorial Chapel is the most popular and traditional location St. Olaf offers for wedding ceremonies.

Pricing for the rental of Boe Memorial Chapel starts at $625 ($75 discount for alumnae, faculty, and staff for a price of $550). A $150 non-refundable deposit is necessary for to secure the wedding date and the remainder of the balance is due 30 days prior to the date.

Two weddings are typically held per Saturday, breaking the day into two wedding time frames:

  • 10:00 AM – 2:30 PM
  • 2:30 PM – 7:00 PM.

Rental includes:

  • Two changing rooms – typically, the Norway Room, the Heritage Room or a Boe classroom
  • Use of piano and organ
  • One wireless microphone for the officiate
  • One podium microphone for the readers
  • One wireless handheld or lavaliere microphone for musicians
  • One-hour rehearsal the night prior to the date (the rehearsal time must be approved by conference office to ensure coordination with the other wedding party – if applicable)

You are responsible to securing the wedding officiate and any musicians desired. We are able to recommend either. Boe Memorial Chapel is equipped with a fantastic organ, so use of this instrument is highly recommended and references to student organists are available.

Boe Memorial Chapel seats over 600 guests, just on the main floor. It’s not common for a wedding to exceed this amount and smaller wedding counts looks just as beautiful in the chapel setting. Boe Memorial Chapel now offers air-conditioning!

Event insurance is a requirement for the rental of Boe Memorial Chapel. You can use any insurance agent of your choosing, but we also can refer one to you. It is necessary that a $2,000,000 insurance policy for general liability naming St. Olaf College as an additional insured party.

 

Other Ceremony Locations:

Urness Recital Hall in Christiansen Hall of Music – seats approximately 250 wedding guests.

Pricing for Urness Recital Hall starts at $475 and includes:

  • Two changing rooms
  • Use of a piano
  • Two wired handheld microphones
  • One hour rehearsal the night prior to the wedding date

Studio A - seats approximately 125 wedding guests.

Pricing for Studio A starts at $450 and includes:

  • One changing rooms (Additional changing rooms based upon availability at $50 each).
  • Use of a piano and organ
  • One hour rehearsal the night prior to the wedding date

Outdoor Locations:

Our picturesque hilltop setting with gardens, courtyard and memorial chime tower is ideal for outdoor weddings and receptions. Please call the Conferences and Events office for more information and pricing.

 

Booking:

Weddings rentals are available during the summer season as well as a few select academic year breaks, these include: Fall break, Interim Break, and Spring Break.

Summer 2015 wedding dates may be requested beginning January 1, 2014.

Fall break booking begins April 1st, one year prior to the wedding date.

For Interim or Spring break, booking begins September 1st, one year prior to the wedding date.

 

 Reception Location Information:

Buntrock Commons, connected to Boe Memorial Chapel by enclosed walkway, has several attractive venues for wedding-related events. The Black and Gold Ballroom is a lovely space for your rehearsal dinner, reception, dinner or dance. The capacity of the Black and Gold Ballrooms in Buntrock Commons changes according to the set-up plan of the venue and can comfortably accommodate 40 to 350 guests. There is a maximum of 350 guests with round tables and no dance-floor. Adding a dance-floor decreases Ballroom capacity to approximately 250 guests and has an additional cost of $250.

Rentals for the Ballrooms are $575 with a required $150 deposit to secure the reception date.

The King’s Dining Room in Buntrock Commons is also available, encompassing two rooms, Valhalla and Trollhaugen, available for use together or separately, depending on party size. Valhalla seats 96 guests at round tables and rental for this space is $125. Trollhaugen can seat 112 with various sized tables and rental is also $125. When combined, they seat up to 200 guests. No dances are permitted in either space.

 

Catering:

The Bon Appétit catering staff will work with you to create a menu that reflects your style and budget.
Bon Appétit can take care of all your wedding-related events. Popular receptions to make your special day even more special may include: bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, lunch or snacks for the wedding party, receptions, post-wedding gift opening event, family brunch, and more!

For the comfort and safety of your guests, no alcoholic beverages are permitted on campus. Bon Appétit offers fine non-alcoholic wines and beers, including sparkling wines suitable for toasting. Samples are available on request.
