St. Olaf Summer Theater Camps 2013
June 11-15

New in 2013

Technical Camp: $450
Technical Theater Camp
Students ages 14 – 16, limited enrollment

In this hands-on and lecture-based camp, students will explore the process of design and the creation and implementation of the technical elements of theater.

Camp Features:

  • Exploration of scenic lighting, video and sound
  • Scenery and costume creation using power tools and basic materials
  • Stage management and production management
  • Basic lighting
  • Explore 3D and CAD software in the design process as well as industry standard software applications like Qlab and Isadora for audio and video (used in major productions around the world including Broadway and the West End!).  Students will leave with a good working knowledge of the applications.

Participants will create theoretical (paper projects) designs that will be displayed in the theatre art gallery as well as actual, small, specific items that will be used in the final showcases during the Acting and Musical Theater Camps.

Campers are highly encouraged to continue into the following week (Acting Camp).  Students may volunteer to be crew and operators for the final showcase performance.  It is required that those staying for the Acting Camp fully participate in that camp experience.  Our belief is that the best actors are those that know what goes on behind the scenes and the best designers and technicians have experience on stage and in front of an audience.
