A summary of data on salary and compensation reported by St. Olaf College to the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) beginning in 1965. Faculty included in these surveys follow the AAUP definitions of inclusions and exclusions. (For instance, they typically include faculty on sabbatical leaves but exclude their replacements; on the other hand, they exclude faculty on administrative assignments but include their replacements.) Beginning in 2015-16, all visiting faculty are reported as instructors.
The source data with both salary and compensation information for 1965-current, reported separately for men and women, is available as an Excel file. Note: In certain years the total number of faculty is larger than the totals of the four ranks because a few individuals without regular rank are included in the total. Also, numbers displayed in italic represent estimates of missing source data.
Several graphs portraying these data are also available:
- St. Olaf Faculty Compensation, Actual Dollars, 1965-current
- St. Olaf Faculty Salary Quartiles, 1965-current
- St. Olaf Faculty Benefits as Percent of Compensation, 1965-current
This site also contains reports on the history of faculty salaries and the history of compensation beginning in 1965, which show this data in both actual and current dollars.
Due to a revised data use agreement from AAUP beginning in Fall 2015, comparison data can no longer be published. To access this data for internal analysis, please contact IR&E staff.
