David Hagedorn, Instructor in Music: Jazz/Percussion/World Music/Music Theory.   Director of Jazz Bands at St. Olaf.  B.S. in Music Education, University of Minnesota, where he studied with Marv Dahlgren and Paula Culp of the Minnesota Orchestra; M.M. in Percussion Performance, New England Conservatory, where he studied with Vic Firth, of the Boston Symphony; and D.M.A. in Percussion Performance, Eastman School of Music, where his principal teacher was John Beck.  He has studied jazz vibes with Dave Samuels, David Friedman, Karl Berger, and Marv Dahlgren, and drum set with Marv Dahlgren, Ed Blackwell, Smitty Smith, Keith Copeland, and Matt Wilson.  Hagedorn was a member of the George Russell Living Time Orchestra, and played on the Grammy nominated “African Game” album for Blue Note Records.  He aslo has recorded with Debbie Duncan, the Minnesota Contemporary Ensemble, and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.  Currently, he plays in the jazz percussion duo SCHAG, Pure Joy, a Twin Cities Jazz Group, the Pete Whitman X-tet, the Out To Lunch Quintet, and regularly plays at jazz clubs in the Twin Cities, including the Dakota, Artist’s Quarter, and the Cafe Luxx.
