Grants are made by The Ella and Kaare Nygaard Foundation to benefit its beneficiary organization, St. Olaf College, and to aid in carrying out that institution’s educational objectives.
Within the broad purpose, grants will be made, more specifically, to carry out the following functions:
- To foster appreciation and understanding of the visual arts in general and sculpture in particular.
- To promote the understanding of the medical profession, its history, and its practice.
- To foster an appreciation of the Norwegian heritage of St. Olaf College by developing closer ties between St. Olaf College and Norwegian cultural and educational institutions.
The foundation will accept applications from individuals, groups of individuals, or institutions, whether or not they are affiliated with St. Olaf College. The project for which the funds are sought, however, must be in keeping with the purpose stated in the opening paragraph above, including one of the three particular functions indicated in the next paragraph. Proposals for projects that are completed will not be considered. The foundation encourages collaborative projects; for example, a joint educational exhibit of art between a museum elsewhere and the Flaten Art Museum at St. Olaf College, or a project initiated by a Norwegian cultural institution which would involve establishing contact with a department at St. Olaf College
