Drop/Add & S/U

Policies regarding changes to registration are listed in the academic catalog.

Adding an OPEN course:

  1. Pick up a drop/add slip from the Registrar’s Office window;
  2. Fill in the required information: student ID number, name, class, term.year, dept. name, course no., section letter (if assigned) and lab (if assigned);
  3. If the term hasn’t begun; bring your drop/add slip to the Registrar’s Office during window hours. If the term has begun; an instructor signature is required. Fall Semester; first-year students must obtain their advisor’s signature for all drops and adds.
  4. Bring your drop/add slip to the Registrar’s Office during window hours for processing.

Adding a CLOSED course:

  1. Pick up a drop/add slip from the Registrar’s Office window;
  2. Fill in the required information: student ID number, name, class, term.year, dept. name, course no., section letter (if assigned) and lab (if assigned);
  3. Obtain the instructor’s signature on your drop/add slip;
  4. Bring your drop/add slip to the Registrar’s Office during window hours for processing.

DROPPING a course:

  1. Pick up a drop/add slip from the Registrar’s Office window;
  2. Fill in the required information: student ID number, name, class, term.year, dept. name, course no., section letter (if assigned) and lab (if assigned);
  3. If the term hasn’t begun; bring your drop/add slip to the Registrar’s Office during window hours. If the term has begun; an instructor signature is required. Fall Semester; first-year students must obtain their advisor’s signature for all drops and adds.
  4. Bring your drop/add slip to the Registrar’s Office during window hours for processing.

Notes:

  • Adding or Dropping Music lessons and/or ensembles must be done through the Music Department;
  • Drop/Adds are processed at the registrar’s window year-round during window hours;
  • Drop/Adds are NOT accepted via e-mail if a currently registered student is on campus;
  • Drop/Adds processed via email only if the student is away from campus (e.g., on an off-campus program, on leave of absence, away for the summer);
  • E-mail request cannot cause a time conflict or overload;
  • E-mail request to drop should not put student at part-time status; any change of registration that puts a student at part-time status must be approved by the relevant class-year dean; students should also check with the Financial Aid Office to determine implications of part-time status on the student’s financial aid award;
  • E-mail requests to add CLOSED courses are not valid unless the registrar also receives permission from the instructor or other designated department representative;
  • Email requests MUST be sent to registrar@stolaf.edu from your St. Olaf e-mail address.

Changing a course from Graded to S/U or S/U to Graded:

  1. Pick up a drop/add slip from the Registrar’s Office window;
  2. Fill in the required information: student ID number, name, class, term.year;
  3. In the drop section: fill in dept. name, course no., section letter (if assigned) and lab (if assigned) and checked graded;
  4. In the add section: fill in dept. name, course no., section letter (if assigned) and lab (if assigned) and checked S/U;
  5. Sign your name and date;
  6. Bring your drop/add slip to the Registrar’s Office during window hours for processing.
