Russian History
Anna Kuxhausen came to St. Olaf from the University of Michigan, where she earned a doctorate in history. Having specialized in the fields of Russian, European and gender history, she teaches courses at all levels in these areas, including German history, history of the Enlightenment, and gender and women in modern European history. Her Russian history courses include the option of an additional FLAC section taught in Russian. In some years, Prof. Kuxhausen also teaches the introductory course in Women’s Studies. Her current research considers the social and cultural history of medicine, the body, and maternity in Imperial Russia.
Prof. Kuxhausen is also the faculty advisor for the St. Olaf chapter of Phi Alpha Theta (the national history honor society) and for the Russian Film Club. Please contact her for more information about either of these organizations or for more information about any of her course offerings.
In December, 2012, Prof. Kuxhausen’s book, From the Womb to the Body Politic: Raising the Nation in Eighteenth-Century Russia was released by the University of Wisconsin Press.
