Working Group Charge

Conduct a comprehensive review of the college’s Title IX policies and procedures with transparency, rigor, and a strong commitment to St. Olaf’s values

  • The Working Group will be thoroughly briefed on current St. Olaf Title IX policies and procedures
  • Regular updates will be provided to the St. Olaf community via the College’s website
  • The Working Group is committed to rigorous conversation and to speaking with one voice on all issues related to its work

Ensure compliance with the latest federal and state regulations and guidelines

  • The Working Group will undergo training on Title IX policies and St. Olaf procedures
  • The Working Work will retain external legal advice and expertise to inform and enrich the Working Group’s deliberations

Seek input and advice from students who have participated firsthand in St. Olaf’s Title IX processes and from other members of the St. Olaf family

  • The Working Group will invite input from individuals who have been first-hand participants in the college’s Title IX process and host an open forum for all students to participate and contribute
  • The Working Group will invite the input from the Title IX team and Dean of Students office personnel
  • When not feasible to have interested parties meet personally with the Working Group, those individuals will be given the opportunity for confidential discussions

Ensure that the diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and opinions of our community are reflected in our Title IX policies

  • The Working Group will address important issues for consideration by inviting representatives from diverse groups or organizations, including but not limited to the LGBTQ and multicultural student communities, as well as students impacted by stereotyping or bias
  • In addition to face-to-face meetings with impacted and affected students, the Working Group will thoughtfully consider all input provided by email or via the online submission form
  • The Working Group will actively engage in dialogue with students who are part of the It’s On Us campaign and the Sexual Assault Resource Network

Consider the policies and practices of other colleges and universities with particularly robust policies, and the thoughts of other experts

  • The Working Group will draw on the recommendations from the Office of Civil Rights and the White House Task Force To Protect Students From Sexual Assault and
  • The Working Group will harness the expertise and background of current members
  • The Working Group will inventory best practices with respect to policies and procedures and ascertain their applicability to both federal and state laws and St. Olaf values

Provide informed and specific recommendations on how the college can improve its Title IX policies to the President by July 15, 2016

  • The Working Group will convene weekly between April 21, 2016 and June 30, 2016
  • The Working Group will convene off campus for a full day on Friday, June 17, 2016 and Monday, July 11, 2016 to synthesize and finalize its report
