For other opportunities, please contact the <a href=\"mailto:civic-engage@stolaf.edu?subject=Other available ACE projects\">ACE Office<\/a>\u00a0or review organizations by <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/ace\/issue-areas\/\">an issue area<\/a> that corresponds to your course. <em>*Note: priorities and opportunities can change quickly, particularly in the non-profit world. While this list is kept as up-to-date as possible, not all projects listed below may still be relevant or available at a later date.*<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/crwp.net\/\"><em>Cannon River Watershed Partnership<\/em><\/a>: 2019 is the &#8220;Year of Water,&#8221; and any and all activities related to that are welcome to participate!<\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/programs-surveys\/decennial-census\/2020-census.html\">Census 2020<\/a>:\u00a0<\/em>There are many opportunities for courses to get involved in Census 2020 work through local agencies such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/lwvnorthfieldmn.org\/\">League of Women Voters<\/a> and the Complete Counts committee in the state. For more information about the Census and how it works, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/mncampuscompact.org\/what-we-do\/initiatives\/2020-census-resources\/#1550516142200-4de271da-b7ee\">MN Campus Compact&#8217;s Census 2020 Information page<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/communityactioncenter.org\/\"><i>Community Action Center<\/i><\/a>: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Northfield Works<\/span> (impact assessment through analyzing and collecting data), <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Community Health Project<\/span> (food insecurity, diet-related disease and long-term health outcomes connected to healthy food access), <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Systems research<\/span> (research individual and system barriers for people who are working to get out of poverty in the Northfield area across multiple realms: political, social, economic, etc.), <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Trauma-informed care<\/span> (partner on staff and community training efforts), <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Marketing Style Guide<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Educational Artwork<\/span> that tells the story of housing and food insecurity, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Oral History Collection<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ongoing volunteer opportunities<\/span> (food shelf and Clothes Closet)<\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dickssanitation.com\/\">Dick\u2019s Sanitation Incorporated<\/a> <\/em>is investigating the feasibility of increasing residential recycling pick-up service from every other week to weekly within the City of Northfield. Research needs include:\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Carbon Emissions Calculation<\/span> for doubling the miles driven with recycling trucks running on natural gas and other environmental factors. How do the opportunity costs of recycling more offset the extra environmental impacts?<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Economics Study of Service<\/span> including labor, insurance health benefits, truck purchases, fuel costs, road wear and tear and replacement, cart\/bin costs, etc.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Behavioral Study<\/span> to effectively manage contamination rates within multiple income levels, race and ethnicity, gender, household type, etc. and adjust educational materials to reduce contamination.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">International Policy Study<\/span> to understand what a shift with China Sword would look like for a U.S. company\u2019s recycling processes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"http:\/\/faribaultdiversitycoalition.org\/\">Faribault Diversity Coalition:<\/a> <\/em>They have lots of ideas, including <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/open?id=0BycLA7gYatZrVkFpVGJJbFYxbmpfOHZnZVhFWDZaYmNZdndN\">capacity building projects<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/open?id=0BycLA7gYatZrUXBJSjBQRm0xVEtCOWpCM2VDbFZ1R1NSWGo0\">programs for youth<\/a>, and other <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/open?id=0BycLA7gYatZrMEtzak1Vd2FWcXlOa2NYd3ZYd2dBLUl3T2tR\">potential programs for the community<\/a>. Some proposed capacity building projects could be done entirely on-campus, too!<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.laurabaker.org\/\"><i>Laura Baker Services Association<\/i><\/a>: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Public policy research\/learning<\/span> (Medicaid, support for developmental disability services, related statistics and translation of data), <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Housing<\/span>\u00a0 (Understanding complex housing issues and translating, researching ideas and helping to develop solutions), <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Arts<\/span> (creating arts curricula, assisting with expanding art options for people with disabilities, adapting existing media for people with disabilities), <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Healthy Living<\/span> (Interpreting data related to healthy eating initiative and suggesting next steps.\u00a0 Creating healthy living curricula for people with disabilities) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Video Production<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Marketing and Social Media analysis<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Creating community integration curricula<\/span> for use with various groups<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/northfieldschools.org\/communityservices\/\"><i>Northfield Community Services<\/i>:<\/a> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Assessment of PreK English Language learners<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Home Visit Awareness Campaign<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.northfieldhistory.org\/\"><i> Northfield Historical Society<\/i><\/a><i>: <\/i><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Exhibit research<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Local history curricula for grades 3-7<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Market analysis and research<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NorthfieldReads\/\"><em>Northfield Reads<\/em><\/a>: The topic for 2020 will be &#8220;climate change.&#8221; They are interested in facilitating a variety of activities around this theme. The book will be chosen within the next few months.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ruthshousemn.org\/\"><i>Ruth\u2019s House<\/i><\/a><i>: <\/i><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Grant writing<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Child Care<\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Community Integration Programs<\/span> for long-term supportive housing residents (hands-on, creative, \u201cnormal\u201d activities are a perfect fit!), <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Graphic Design<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- begin-migrated-from-panel-builder --><!-- end-migrated-from-panel-builder --><\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Below is a small sample of ACE projects or components that are known to be available.
