What is your current occupation?
Director of Community Engagement for Thrivent Financial
What was your major and how has that played out into your life today?
English major. I learned how to organize my thoughts and clearly communicate. This is essential in all aspects of life. It is especially important in building your career, and developing your network. Having a liberal arts education prepared me to be a lifelong learner. In the early part of my career I worked in marketing roles in financial services. I realized that I wanted my work to have deeper meaning, and left to serve in leadership roles within two different ministry organizations. Now my work combines my faith and business experience. I feel very blessed to work with Thrivent where faith and business come together, and community impact is integral to our mission. It was at Olaf that I learned the importance of making an impact to improve the lives of others. I learned so much more beyond my major that is woven into my life today.
Tell us your favorite Ole memory.
When I think of St Olaf I think about the many great friends I met. We made our own fun. Thirteen women shared Holstad House our senior year and these wonderful women are still friends today!
What is your favorite alumni event?
Most recently the Black and Gold Gala – a great way to connect with Oles in the Twin Cities!
What do you consider your greatest achievement that St. Olaf has played a part in?
I’ve had the opportunity to serve in leadership roles in both my career and in the community. At St Olaf I had the opportunity to begin developing leadership skills through the experience of being a JC and serving as an honor house president. By understanding community and the importance of making an impact with my life, I have been able to serve many great community projects. I have been able to make an impact through volunteering which is very fulfilling.
Why do you support St. Olaf College?
I have great memories of my experience at St Olaf, and want to make that possible for others to experience. With a foundation of faith, the college prepares students for a life of impact and serving others. We need more of this in our world!
What do you hope to accomplish on the Alumni Board?
By serving on the alumni board, I hope to support the college as it builds alumni engagement strategies, and actively support the engagement plans of the college in the Twin Cities.
