Class of 1997 – 20th Reunion

Dear Class of 1997 Oles, (Yep, that’s YOU!)

It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since we graduated from St. Olaf! 20 years! Over the last two decades, most have grown up, many have built careers, some have had families, others have moved away, a few have moved back, and pretty much all have considered a second Paracollege degree just to experience lunch in Buntrock Commons. Well, no matter what the last 20 years has done to your body or brain, it is high time we all got back together to catch up, swap stories, and relive memories of Olaf in the ‘90s.

Just in case we need a few conversation-starters, the Alumni Association – in conjunction with Res Life, SAC and the Art History Department – met over copious cups of non-Starbuck’s coffee and approved the following discussion topics:

  1. Why is it that computers no longer require a start-up disk?
  2. On a scale of 1-5, how awesome was the addition of “Beach” Volleyball on the front lawn of Manitou?
  3. During your time at St. Olaf, would you characterize the Lion’s Pause as “fire trap”, “death trap”, or “pretty awesome considering…”?
  4. What was your best bowling score at the Alley? Oh, wait! Were you there just to watch Friends too?
  5. Sophomore year room draw. Go.

On a serious note, we want to see you and to see each other! We warmly and emphatically invite, encourage, and, if we have to, we will beg you return to St. Olaf for our 20-year college reunion the weekend of June 2 – 4, 2017. And, while we have not been able to cobble together the funds for a reunion concert featuring Bobby Llama, Ellis Bergeron and/or the Big Wu, many activities are planned throughout the weekend for all reunion classes as well as special events and speakers just for the Class of ‘97. Mark your calendars and make every effort to do the right thing…which, if not made clear in this letter, is to come to the reunion.

But that’s not all! We have decided to sweeten the deal by offering an incredible, once in a lifetime incentive to those who register early. Register for the reunion by April 12 and you will be entered into a raffle to win your choice of a $50 gift certificate to the St. Olaf Bookstore or a $50 credit towards your outstanding library fines.

Don’t miss it! Look for future mailings from St. Olaf. Join the St. Olaf Class of 1997 Facebook group to share and receive photos and memories prior to the weekend of June 2. We look forward to seeing you!
