Students learn about the United States as a cultural and geo-political entity\u00a0by using multiple disciplinary perspectives such as history, literature, art, music, sociology,\u00a0anthropology, political science, religion, and economics, as well as interdisciplinary courses\u00a0offered by the American Studies program. The program\u2019s focus on cultural patterns helps\u00a0students to \u201cread\u201d any culture they encounter &#8212; the culture of business, the culture of\u00a0education, the culture of home \u2013 and to act effectively and responsibly within it.<\/p>\n<p>The American Studies major will not be available to students enrolling in St. Olaf after fall 2018.
