The Payroll Office is responsible for timely and accurate processing of the College\u2019s staff, faculty, and student payrolls, monitoring and reporting payroll taxes and other deductions, assuring compliance with IRS regulations, and issuing annual Wage & Tax Statements. Services provided include direct deposit of pay, additional Federal or State withholding, and employment verification.<\/p>\n

The Payroll Office is located on the main floor of Tomson Hall Rm 132.<\/p>\n

Report IRS Phishing Emails<\/a><\/p>\n

IRS reminds us of potential fraudulent communications 3\/9\/2026: (Courtesy of Arctic International- Glacier)<\/h4>\n

IRS Impersonation Emails & Texts (Phishing\/Smishing): <\/strong>Scammers send messages pretending to be from the IRS, often using urgent language or QR codes that lead to fake IRS websites asking the individual to verify information or claim refunds.<\/p>\n

Avoid Clicking Suspicious Links: <\/strong>Unsolicited IRS-related messages may contain malicious links that can install malware or ransomware on a device, potentially compromising personal data.<\/p>\n

Report Suspicious Communications: <\/strong>The IRS encourages taxpayers to report suspicious emails, direct messages, or text messages claiming to be from the IRS. The IRS has launched an updated webpage\u00a0https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/help\/report-fraud<\/a>\u00a0that allows taxpayers to confidentially report suspected tax fraud, phishing scams, evasion, or other tax-related illegal activities.<\/p>\n

AI-Enabled Phone Scams: <\/strong>Fraudsters may use robocalls, voice-cloning technology, and spoofed caller IDs to make calls appear to come from legitimate organizations like the IRS.<\/p>\n

Know How the IRS Contacts Taxpayers: <\/strong>The IRS typically initiates contact with taxpayers by regular mail first and does\u00a0not<\/strong>\u00a0demand immediate payment, threaten arrest, or leave urgent prerecorded voicemail messages, phone calls, or e-mail.<\/p>\n

Verify Tax Information Carefully: <\/strong>Taxpayer\u2019s should not rely on AI-generated responses for tax advice or calculations. Always verify important financial information through trusted sources or tax professionals.<\/p>\n

Fake Charities: <\/strong>Scammers may create fraudulent charities, especially after disasters, to collect donations and personal information.<\/p>\n

We are\u00a0monitoring\u00a0reported text messages that claim to be from the Minnesota Department of Revenue asking you to update banking information. If you get one of these messages,\u00a0do not reply or click any link in it. \u202fWe will never send unsolicited texts asking for personal data.<\/p>\n

Many of you are aware that the IRS\u00a0is issuing automatic payments to taxpayers who it believes were eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 U.S. tax returns, but who did not claim the credit at the time of tax return filing.<\/p>\n

Many nonresident aliens are receiving these payments even though they were not eligible for them. We want to alert you that the IRS recently announced that scammers are impersonating the IRS and sending texts to taxpayers asking for sensitive information under the guise that the taxpayer could be eligible to receive the Recovery Rebate Credit payment if they disclosed sensitive, private information to them. This is actually a scam to steal the individual\u2019s personal data.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the IRS\u00a0NEVER<\/strong> asks for personal or financial information by unsolicited text, email, or through social media.\u00a0 Additionally, the taxpayer should take note that all federal government website addresses end in \u201c.gov\u201d, not \u201c.com\u201d or other extension.<\/p>\n

W-4 Withholding<\/h4>\n

Please utilize the IRS Withholding Estimator<\/a> or consult with your tax professional before making any changes to your W-4. The Payroll Office is unable to advise you on what you should claim but can provide any calculations you may need to help you make the decision on changing your W-4 elections.
