The IRS has launched an updated webpage\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/help\/report-fraud\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/help\/report-fraud&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1773146489683000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2U00mvxvQodyafpTbRX-WA\">https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/help\/report-fraud<\/a>\u00a0that allows taxpayers to confidentially report suspected tax fraud, phishing scams, evasion, or other tax-related illegal activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AI-Enabled Phone Scams: <\/strong>Fraudsters may use robocalls, voice-cloning technology, and spoofed caller IDs to make calls appear to come from legitimate organizations like the IRS.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Know How the IRS Contacts Taxpayers: <\/strong>The IRS typically initiates contact with taxpayers by regular mail first and does\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0demand immediate payment, threaten arrest, or leave urgent prerecorded voicemail messages, phone calls, or e-mail.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Verify Tax Information Carefully: <\/strong>Taxpayer\u2019s should not rely on AI-generated responses for tax advice or calculations. We want to alert you that the IRS recently announced that scammers are impersonating the IRS and sending texts to taxpayers asking for sensitive information under the guise that the taxpayer could be eligible to receive the Recovery Rebate Credit payment if they disclosed sensitive, private information to them. This is actually a scam to steal the individual\u2019s personal data.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a reminder, the IRS\u00a0<strong>NEVER<\/strong> asks for personal or financial information by unsolicited text, email, or through social media.\u00a0 Additionally, the taxpayer should take note that all federal government website addresses end in \u201c.gov\u201d, not \u201c.com\u201d or other extension.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>W-4 Withholding<\/h4>\n<p>Please utilize the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/individuals\/tax-withholding-estimator\">IRS Withholding Estimator<\/a> or consult with your tax professional before making any changes to your W-4. The Payroll Office is unable to advise you on what you should claim but can provide any calculations you may need to help you make the decision on changing your W-4 elections.
