Anna Deavere Smith Presentation: “Engaging the World”

St. Olaf College honorary degree recipient Anna Deavere Smith will give a 50 minute presentation/performance titled “Engaging the World: The Role of the Artist in Society.”

Smith is an American actress, playwright, and professor widely known for her roles as National Security Advisor Dr. Nancy McNally in The West Wing and hospital administrator Gloria Akalitus in the Showtime series Nurse Jackie. She has been nominated for two Tony Awards, won a Drama Desk Award, received a MacArthur Fellowship and The Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize. She received the National Humanities Medal from President Obama in 2012.
