Faculty/Guest Recital: 10th Wave
January 13, 2020 @ 8:15 pm - 9:45 pmFree
10th Wave will present a guest recital in Urness Recital Hall at 8:15pm.
Formed in December 2017, 10th Wave is a collective ensemble featuring instruments including, but not limited to: clarinet, violin, cello, piano, marimba, percussion, and voice. The organization is led by Bjorn and Weily Grina-Shay, Eri Isomura (St. Olaf ’11), and Ashley Ng. 10th Wave is a Twin Cities-baed chamber music collective that explores bringing engaging and interdisciplinary classical new music to performance spaces inside and outside the normative setting. 10th Wave presents programmatic concerts that explore various topics and social issues—such as world eents, mental health, and loss—in performance halls. Always searching for innovative ways to connect with the community, we also perform groovy minimalist music in bars, breweries, and cafes—places where classical music is not often heard and for an audience new to the sounds and textures of instrumental compositions. 10th Wave concerts series in performance halls are intentional to build a community that breaks down the barriers of social class, race, and ethnicity that is accessible for all who come to listen. 10th Wave has been featured in several music festivals in the Twin Cities: The Stone Arch Bridge Festival and Highland Music Festival, and at performance spaces within restaurants and breweries: Boom Island Brewing Co., The Red Sea Minneapolis, Black Dog Cafe, Underground Music Cafe, and Studio Z.
