Japanese Buyo

April 8 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Tsurugawa Wakasanojo, master of traditional Japanese narrative songs and a ningen kokuho or Living National Treasure recognized by Japan’s Culture Ministry, will join Hanayagi Kihi, nihon buyo instructor/dancer/choreographer, and Toshiya Matsumoto, student of nihon buyo, in a video performance of traditional Japanese buyo dance. Visiting Assistant Professor of Japanese and Asian Studies, Tyler Walker, has arranged access for us to enjoy this interpretation of the well loved story, The Spider’s Thread.

With thanks to the Leraas Fund, the Asian Studies department and Japanese program invite you to come and enjoy the performance and an opportunity to speak with the artists who created it on Friday, April 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the Center for Art and Dance.
