Lutheran Center Fall Symposium – Beyond Land Acknowledgment
October 21 @ 11:30 am - 12:45 pmFree
What does it mean for St. Olaf to acknowledge that “we stand on the homelands of the Wahpekute Band of the Dakota Nation”? How does this reality relate to the stories we tell about our Norwegian Lutheran founders? And how might we as a community commit to reparative work with Dakota peoples and other Native American communities?
Lunch will be provided.
The symposium will feature:
- Dr. Joan Hepburn, Associate Professor of English
- Kelly Sherman-Conroy, Mato Waste Winyan (Good Bear Woman), Native American Theologian and Minister of Social Justice & Advocacy for Children, Youth, and Family Ministry at Nativity Lutheran Church, St. Anthony, MN
- Dr. Kari Lie Dorer, Professor of Norwegian and Director of Nordic Studies
- Rev. Jim Bear Jacobs, Native American Pastor and Director of Racial Justice for the Minnesota Council of Churches
