The MBPR Internship Fair returns at a new location! Are you looking for an opportunity to learn more about publishing? Consider becoming an intern for one of the many book or magazine publishers in the Twin Cities! At the Minnesota Book Publishers Roundtable internship fair, publishers will answer questions, take résumés, and discuss the opportunities available at their companies in a speed-interviewing format.
Joining us this year is a new partner, the University of Minnesota’s art and literary magazine The Tower, staffed by students enrolled in a yearlong course, who will host the event on campus in the newly renovated Pillsbury Hall. Many thanks to the students and Dr. Jim Cihlar, their instructor and former MBPR president, for their support.
The fair is open to the public, but attendees are encouraged to register ahead of time. A variety of internships are available in editorial, design, marketing, production, and other areas, including paid positions and those for academic credit; semester, summer-break, and flexible-schedule work; and opportunities for nontraditional students and experience-based and non-degree-holding applicants.
Registration for publishing organizations wishing to interview potential interns is now open! Registration links are sent via email.
Presenters and attendees are expected to adhere to the university’s Safe Campus protocols, which currently require all faculty, staff, students, and visitors (including contractors, service providers, vendors, and suppliers) to wear a well-fitted face mask that covers the wearer’s nose and mouth, wraps under the chin, and does not have any noticeable gaps at all times when in any enclosed or indoor space on University campuses and properties (including leased facilities), regardless of vaccination status.
MBPR is monitoring the constantly shifting landscape of the pandemic, including campus and state restrictions. We are hopeful about the possibility of this in-person event, but we will continue to evaluate the situation as the date approaches. And, of course, MBPR Job Board includes an internship-specific option that is free for member use.
We look forward to seeing you and meeting a new generation of publishing hopefuls!
