Many healthcare providers use MI to help encourage their patients to engage in healthy behaviors like exercise. This method of communication overall tries to connect people’s values with their goals, using their values as the fuel to achieve their goals. Obviously college students aren’t really in the place to be advising others in such a way, but this method of communication is a great framework through which we can communicate with ourselves to help us understand our own values and how they connect to our goals. I will be talking about the different components of MI and will discuss related ideas such as the stages of change model.
