Parables on the Edge of Time
November 21, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Parables on the Edge of Time
A Devised Drama in Two Acts Featuring:
The Insanity of Mary Girard by Lanie Robertson
Trifles by Susan Glaspell
Directed by Bryan Schmidt and Brigit van Gemeren
“Those who don’t know their history are doomed to repeat it. Those who do know their history are doomed to watch others repeat it.”
The stories of women from the past, present, and future collide in a visionary epic that remixes the rules of time and space. Without reason or warning, we are uncontrollably flung backwards and forwards in time, landing in an 18th century mental asylum, an early 20th century farm homestead, and a 21st century studio for recording true crime podcasts. As sonic wisps of these different timelines float through the air, we witness a murder investigation, learn about the first woman elected President, and hear the haunting tale of Mary Girard’s incarceration by her philandering husband. Featuring two classic feminist plays, original student writing, and experimental sound production that merges all these worlds into one, Parables on the Edge of Time confronts us with the horrors women have endured throughout history, and asks us to imagine radical futures.
