The Political Awareness Committee (PAC), the Diversity Initiatives Support Committee (DISC), Amnesty International, and the Armenian students at St. Olaf college cordially invite you to join us for a talk with Karine Eurdekian and Armen Sahakyan on Wednesday, November 18th at 5 PM about the current war in Armenia. Here is the zoom link to attend the event; please, save it: https://stolaf.zoom.us/j/95539147091.
What’s happening in Armenia?
On the morning of September 27th, Azerbaijan broke the ceasefire and began a series of coordinated attacks on Artsakh (also internationally known as Nagorno-Karabakh), Armenia. The devastating detail of Azerbaijan’s continuous attacks is that the civilian population is targeted, villages, towns, and cities are shelled continuously. Azerbaijan has not spared medical or educational facilities, and our monasteries and culturally significant sights.
Azerbaijan has forced 100,000+ Armenians to leave behind their homes and homeland. Genocide emergency is declared as Turkey supporting Azerbaijan is continuing its anti-Armenian violence after committing the Armenian genocide during World War I. Many friends and family of our Armenian community members are either conscripted or volunteering in the frontlines to defend their country. Since the war began, the Azerbaijani government has killed more than 2000 Armenian soldiers and civilians. Most of them are younger than any of us.
How does your presence support the Armenian people?
We invite you to further learn about the ongoing war in Armenia, affecting a significant number of your peers and their home country. We deem important that our St. Olaf Community is engaged in helping and supporting this event, a call for help, while Armenians are pleading internationally to uphold their right to exist.
If you cannot be present at the talk but would like to donate, please, follow this link: https://www.armeniafund.org/ and let us know if you have any questions.
We hope to see you virtually!
