Thanks to stringent safety measures, and the extraordinary efforts of our students, faculty, and staff, St. Olaf ensembles have been able to continue rehearsing and recording music this semester. We’re pleased to highlight the work put in by our orchestras this spring in a concert presenting recorded performances from the St. Olaf Philharmonia and St. Olaf Orchestra.
This special performance will feature a live chat function so friends and family alike can come together and enjoy the accomplishments of the St. Olaf instrumental ensembles.
This performance recording was conducted without an audience. Stringent safety measures were followed to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in adherence to current and emerging studies about aerosol transmission among musicians. String players and percussionists played six feet apart while wind players, brass players, and singers were spaced by nine feet. Performers, conductors and all involved personnel wore masks, and instruments were fitted with bell covers. Sessions lasted 30 minutes, separated by ventilation breaks of 30 minutes to allow proper air filtration. Surfaces were also sanitized.
