Please join us for our “Technical Interviews for Computer Science” virtual webinar series, which consists of two sessions designed to help prepare St. Olaf students for coding interviews in computer science. The presenters for both sessions will be three alumni who have been successful on both sides of the computer science interview process:
–Justin Pacholec ’18 St. Olaf alum; current Software Engineer II at Microsoft
–Elijah Verdoorn ’18 St. Olaf alum; current software engineer at Robinhood (past work at Pandora and WeWork)
–Conrad Parker ’17 St. Olaf alum; Software Engineer II at Google
Session 1 — Technical Interviews for Computer Science: An Introduction
Wednesday, April 14, 2021, 6 – 7pm Central time
Zoom link: https://stolaf.zoom.us/j/98206944025?pwd=c0M5QU5TRG1QUzZidmdZSXdOTWVOZz09
This session will present an introduction to the interview process used by many technology companies. The session will also have content appropriate for students actively in the job search process, including proven tips on finding a technical position on short notice, strategies for networking with alums, how to leverage technology companies that have had experiences with Oles in the past, general interview preparation, and how to make yourself visible in your discipline.
Session 2 — Technical Interviews for Computer Science: Hands-On Workshop
Wednesday, April 28, 2021, 6 -7pm Central time
(Zoom link pending)
The three presenters will walk through and act out an actual coding interview question using whiteboarding and other methods while being observed by student attendees. They will share their thought processes, decision making processes and strategies while addressing the question posed. There will be opportunities for students to ask questions and interact during the process, which will help build skills and help develop confidence in preparation for the interview process.
These sessions are particularly relevant for St. Olaf computer science majors and students interested in computer coding jobs and internships, but students from all majors and academic year levels are welcome. These workshops offer a casual, low-stakes way to learn relevant career-related information from the experiences of St. Olaf alumni, friends of the college, faculty, staff, and employers in a variety of fields.
Registration is encouraged but not required
