A Hand That Whites Has a Wide Reach: Recent Translations of Sámi Literature to English.
Join us for an Indigenous People’s Day celebration of the new Sámi and Critical Indigenous Studies area of emphasis. The Sámi are an indigenous Finno-Ugric-speaking people inhabiting Sápmi, which today encompasses large northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Kola Peninsula within the Murmansk Oblast of Russia. Each of the four panelists have translated to English Sámi folktales, legends, myths and poetry.
