Phelps is associate professor of sociology at the University of Minnesota\, Twin Cities. She is the coauthor of Breaking the Pendulum: The Long Struggle Over Criminal Justice.  \nJake Monaghan is an assistant professor of philosophy at the University of Southern California and earned his PhD at the University at Buffalo.
