At its core is a deceptively simple question: What happens when a museum is treated as a place for conversations rather than conclusions? \nThe exhibition highlights five new acquisitions that serve as catalysts for inquiry rather than fixed narratives. Building from these works\, students developed themes that invite dialogue\, contrast\, and curiosity. The adjacent  “living room” space offers room for personal reflection. Let’s Talk: Collection Conversations welcomes visitors into a museum shaped by shared conversations where meaning is sparked by both dialogue and observation.

DESCRIPTION:Ken-Ichi Takashima\, Professor Emeritus of the University of British Columbia\, will explore the origins of the Chinese civilization as reflected in the oldest writings\, “oracle-bone inscriptions” (OBI). Datable to the Late Shang Dynasty\, ca. 1230-1050 BCE\, the topics of the OBI range widely\, such as weather\, agriculture\, hunting\, warfare\, medicine\, childbirth\, sacrificial and ritual practices\, etc. They inform us of the conditions and situations of the Shang diviners\, kings\, scribes\, and the high echelons of society. How they responded to them unveils what they were thinking or doing. Professor Takashima will analyze it in terms of writing and divination\, aiming to reveal their mentality.

Leveraging dance as a catalyst for social change & consistently seeking the broadest range of engagement possible has led UBW to train rigorously in dialogue facilitation\, analyzing racism and its manifestations in group dynamics\, and in the field of brain-compatible dance education (a holistic practice rather than dance instruction as mimicry)—in addition to concert dance technique & performance. \nAbout UBW’s Collab Lab \nUrban Bush Women facilitates artistic creation based on themes that emerge from the group. With an emphasis on dance and song\, they use various artistic genres\, including creative writing and visual art\, to process\, synthesize\, and communicate.
