SUMMARY:Pedagogies of Abolition Keynote Event
DESCRIPTION:The Pedagogies of Abolition Keynote Event will feature a roundtable discussion with leading scholars about abolitionist approaches to education inside and outside the academy. How can educators use pedagogies derived from social movements within their classrooms? What does socially-engaged pedagogy look like in the belly of the beast? What responsibility do educators have to their communities and what are they willing to risk for justice? Joining St. Olaf’s own Assistant Professor of Race\, Ethnic\, Gender\, and Sexuality Studies Lau Malaver and Assistant Professor of History Jaden Janak are Qui Alexander\, Assistant Professor of Gender\, Sexuality\, and Trans Studies at the University of Toronto\, and Page Regan\, Visiting Assistant Professor of Education and Feminist & Gender Studies at Colorado College. Preceding the event will be a reception for the guests and the St. Olaf community at 5:30 p.m. The event will begin at 6 p.m. in Viking Theater. \nThis event is sponsored by the departments of Race\, Ethnic Studies\, Gender\, and Sexuality Studies and History. The hosts also received funding from the Leraas Fund\, Cassling Family Fund\, First Year Experience and Sophomore Thriving\, Social Justice Award\, and Mellon Foundation.
