DESCRIPTION:A conference for young adults and high school youth interested in the intersection of environmental justice\, Lutheran theology\, and science. Featuring keynote speakers\, workshops\, and breakout sessions\, programming will explore our generation’s relationships to climate and the church in a cultural moment where past generations’ models fall short. This summit will focus on building community among young people with shared faith and values\, while also empowering them to shape the rest of their lives. \nEvents will be hosted on the St. Olaf College Campus and local Lutheran churches in Northfield.

SUMMARY:Young Adult Faith and Climate Summit
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Young Adult Faith and Climate Summit\, the public is invited to attend the opening plenary session “The ELCA’s Climate Work: Faithful Advocacy in Challenging Times” led by Christine Moffett\, ELCA Environmental Policy Specialist. Christine Moffet (she/her) serves as the Program Director for Environment and Energy Policy with the Witness in Society\, D.C. office-based team\, within the Service and Justice unit of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Christine brings a background in both environmental science and political science. She holds a Master of Political Science Degree from the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam in Global Environmental Governance\, Climate Change and Sustainability. In addition\, she brings experience conducting community needs assessments in accompaniment with tribal nations. In this role with the ELCA\, she advocates to the federal government around issues of stewardship of creation\, environmental justice\, climate change\, sustainability\, among others\, all guided by ELCA social teachings. \nThe plenary will take place at 10 a.m. in Boe Chapel and will include a Panel Conversation on Troubled Hope & Binocular Vision. Following the Q&A\, guests are invited to Boe Plaza (rain location: Tomson Hall) for light refreshments.
