SUMMARY:Much Ado About Nothing
DESCRIPTION:All are welcome to attend the St. Olaf Theater Department’s performances of Much Ado About Nothing. \nMuch Ado About Nothing is a comedy by playwright William Shakespeare. The action is set in Messina\, Italy\, and tells the story of Beatrice and Benedick\, who are always arguing. Their friends conspire to make them fall in love with each other. The primary plot turns on the courtship and scandal involving young Hero and her suitor\, Claudio — but the witty war of words between Claudio’s friend Benedick and Hero’s cousin Beatrice often takes center stage. \n

SUMMARY:Doubt: A Parable
DESCRIPTION:Everyone is welcome to attend the Theater Department’s performances of Doubt: A Parable\, performed by St. Olaf students. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe main message of John Patrick Shanley’s play Doubt: A Parable is that doubt\, rather than certainty\, requires courage and is essential for moral integrity and genuine faith.  The play explores how clinging to certainty can be destructive and encourages audiences to embrace skepticism and moral uncertainty in a world where clear resolutions are often lacking. It also touches on themes of power\, authority\, abuse\, and racial tensions within the strict hierarchy of a Catholic school in the 1960s.

SUMMARY:"TIGRE! TIGRE!" - An Operetta
DESCRIPTION:The Fox and Beggar Theater presents ‘TIGRE! TIGRE!’\, an operetta\, on September 26 at 7 p.m. The performance will take place outside on the quad in front of Tomson. In case of rain\, the show will be delayed until the following day\, but if the ground is merely wet\, it will be performed in the vicinity of Tomson. This event is open to the public\, and donations are welcome. \nCombining puppetry\, traditional clown theater\, and a live score influenced by everything from Medieval court music to Gilbert & Sullivan\, “TIGRE! TIGRE!” explores humanity’s absurd relationship to technology while asking the fundamental question: what drives us to perpetually open new doors that we know we won’t be able to close? Visit https://www.foxandbeggar.org/tigre for more information.

SUMMARY:The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
DESCRIPTION:Tickets are on sale now for the St. Olaf College Theater Department’s production of “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane” at Kelsey Theater May 1–4\, 2025. https://wp.stolaf.edu/theater/tickets/ \nEdward Tulane is an expensive toy rabbit made of china. He is loved by a little girl named Abilene\, but Edward doesn’t care. He is vain and self-centered. He has no interest in anyone other than himself. On an ocean voyage\, Edward is accidentally thrown overboard and sinks to the bottom of the sea. So begins his journey—a journey over which he has no control\, for he is a toy rabbit. He can neither move nor speak. As years pass by\, Edward meets many different people in many different situations: an older grieving couple who find comfort in Edward’s presence\, a hobo and his dog who introduce Edward to a whole community of homeless wanderers\, a farmer in need of a scarecrow\, a sad little boy and his very ill sister\, and finally a doll mender and an old doll who teach Edward an invaluable lesson. Through this miraculous journey\, Edward learns what it is to love\, what it is to lose that love\, and how to find the courage to love again. Based on Kate DiCamillo’s beautiful novel of the same name\, the play is a theatrical tour de force for a small ensemble of actors and musicians.
