The paper will usually take the form of a scientific journal article.\u00a0 Professional quality figures and tables will likely be included.<\/p>\n<p>The student submits a draft of a paper to the distinction mentor by the advertised due date. \u00a0The mentor and the student work together to edit and adapt the paper as necessary to convey the work done in an acceptable and professional manner. \u00a0A semi-final version of this paper is\u00a0presented to the candidate&#8217;s distinction committee at least a week prior to the candidate&#8217;s meeting with the committee.<\/p>\n<p>Various aspects of the distinction process are described at the links below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/chemistry\/?page_id=570&amp;preview=true\" target=\"_blank\">Qualifications<\/a> necessary for pursuing distinction.<\/p>\n<p>The required elements of the distinction process:<br \/>\n1. Participation in an <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/chemistry\/?page_id=576&amp;preview=true\" target=\"_blank\">experiential learning activity or project<\/a>.<br \/>\n2.
