{"id":570,"date":"2015-09-26T10:37:07","date_gmt":"2015-09-26T15:37:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/chemistry\/?page_id=570"},"modified":"2015-09-26T21:39:49","modified_gmt":"2015-09-27T02:39:49","slug":"qualifications-for-earning-distinction-in-chemistry","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/chemistry\/information-for-current-chemistry-majors\/earning-distinction-in-chemistry\/qualifications-for-earning-distinction-in-chemistry\/","title":{"rendered":"Qualifications for Earning Distinction in Chemistry"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-modular-content-collection><p>In order to undertake the process of attaining departmental distinction, a student must<\/p>\n<p>&gt; \u00a0 \u00a0 be a declared chemistry major<br \/>\n&gt; \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0have a chemistry course GPA of 3.00 or greater<br \/>\n&gt; \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0have an overall GPA of 3.00 or greater<br \/>\n&gt; \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0have junior or senior standing<\/p>\n<p>In order to be certified with Departmental Distinction in Chemistry, a student must<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&gt; \u00a0 \u00a0finish the chemistry major and other graduation requirements<br \/>\n&gt; \u00a0\u00a0 maintain a chemistry course GPA of 3.00 or greater<br \/>\n&gt; \u00a0\u00a0 maintain an overall GPA of 3.00 or greater<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The process of gaining Departmental Distinction in Chemistry is a formative, rather than summative process.\u00a0 Students are expected to progress through the required elements in a manner that involves considerable learning at each step.\u00a0 The student seeking distinction works with their distinction mentor on each element of the process.\u00a0 Improving the student&#8217;s ability to communicate science effectively is one of the primary goals of the distinction process.<\/p>\n<p>Various aspects of the distinction process are described at the links below.<\/p>\n<p>The required elements of the distinction process:<br \/>\n1. Participation in an <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/chemistry\/?page_id=576&amp;preview=true\" target=\"_blank\">experiential learning activity or project<\/a>.<br \/>\n2.
