The retreat, led by Director of Writing and Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies Diane LeBlanc, provides structured writing time and accountability among supportive colleagues. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2021 CILA Summer Writing Retreat will take place during the week of <\/span><b>June 7-11, 1:00 pm &#8211; 3:00 pm <\/b>and <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">participants will meet daily through Zoom for guided discussion of writing habits, voice, proposal to publication steps, collaboration, and revision. We\u2019ll write together in our own spaces for at least 75 minutes every day, and support one another as we refine daily writing goals. Participants will receive a $250 stipend for full participation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This opportunity is open to current St. Olaf faculty <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">f<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rom all disciplines and Faculties, with preference given to<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> applicants who are at critical career points (e.g., tenure or promotion review)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Participants are expected to engage fully by attending all five days of the retreat. Through workshop exercises, we\u2019ll<br \/>\nexplore how writing often takes us away from the immediate writing experience into the<br \/>\npast (habits, critics, and other influences) or to the future (more critics, prizes,<br \/>\npublication credits). This workshop offers strategies for moving from the<br \/>\nconceptual stage to writing. \u201cReading\u201d in this context includes crucial activities that you<br \/>\ndo before (or instead of) writing: identifying and reading materials for a literature review,<br \/>\nrecording and analyzing data, or digesting reviewers\u2019 comments, to name just a few of<br \/>\nthese activities. At other times, it requires deep revision to<br \/>\nconvey your ideas or to reach your audience. This workshop invites you to practice<br \/>\ndeep revision by detouring through a different medium before returning to your<br \/>\ndraft. We\u2019ll do exercises to identify how you typically revise then experiment with<br \/>\ndifferent modes of expression (drawing, using jamboard, moving, podcasting) to open<br \/>\npossibilities for revision you may not realize through familiar writing practice. Our goal is<br \/>\nto leave the workshop with at least one new revision strategy and a specific idea for<br \/>\nrevising your project.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id6a0afa1448b9a\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"&lt;strong&gt;Reflect and Sustain&lt;\/strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;br \/&gt;\n&lt;\/em&gt;Monday, January 27\"    ><strong>Reflect and Sustain<\/strong><em><br \/>\n<\/em>Monday, January 27<\/div><div id=\"target-id6a0afa1448b9a\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \">\n<p>In this workshop, you\u2019ll look back at your writing process and productivity through<br \/>\nJanuary and look ahead to integrating writing and research into spring, summer, or<br \/>\nsabbatical schedules with an eye toward sustaining and completing priority projects.<br \/>\nWe\u2019ll consider single project or multiple project options as you frame and plan.<br \/>\nExercises will be mindful of work\/life equilibrium for participants at different stages of life<br \/>\nand career.
