{"id":161,"date":"2011-01-27T23:27:12","date_gmt":"2011-01-27T23:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/classics\/requirements-for-majors\/major-in-latin-education\/"},"modified":"2023-06-07T08:13:32","modified_gmt":"2023-06-07T13:13:32","slug":"latin-education","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/classics\/requirements-for-majors\/latin-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Requirements for a Latin Major with K-12 Teaching License"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-modular-content-collection><p><strong>Requirements for a Latin Major with K-12 Teaching License\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>7 courses in Latin<\/p>\n<p>1 course in Roman history (or 1 Classics course)<\/p>\n<p>Education 349 (Teaching of Latin, K-12)<\/p>\n<p>Students who begin Latin at the 231 (3rd-semester) level or higher have the option of taking 6 courses in Latin, 1 Roman history course (or 1 Classics course), and Education 349.<\/p>\n<p>Students must also complete all the general requirements for St. Olaf&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/education\/licenses\/\">K-12 Teaching Licensure Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Intended Learning Outcomes for a Major in Latin<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Students will demonstrate:\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\" type=\"1\">\n<li>advanced knowledge of the Latin language.<\/li>\n<li>the ability to translate and analyze Latin literature in at least three genres.<\/li>\n<li>basic cultural knowledge about ancient Rome.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Departmental distinction is not awarded in Latin (only in <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/classics\/requirements-for-majors\/classics\/\">Classics<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>To read the Classics Brochure, click <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/classics\/files\/2022\/09\/Classics-Brochure-22-23.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Questions?
