A specialist in Latin poetry, Lisa Whitlatch concentrates on animals, both their historical roles and their metaphorical appearances in literature. Her research includes epistemology, allusion and intertext, the much understudied poet Grattius, and Ovid\u2019s Metamorphoses<\/em>.<\/p>\n

She recently published an article on \u201cEmpiricist Dogs and the Superiority of Philosophy in Lucretius\u2019 De Rerum Natura<\/em>\u201d (Classical World <\/em>108.1). \u00a0Now she is busy\u00a0transforming her dissertation, \u201cThe Hunt for Knowledge: Hunting in Latin Didactic Poets,\u201d into a monograph.<\/p>\n

\"LisaWhitlatchBemidji7.14.15\"Whitlatch loves to travel and has been a speaker at conferences across the country as well as far afield \u2013 from Sydney, Australia, to Margherita di Savoia, Italy, to London, England. She encourages her students to go see the world \u2014 or at least get out to a museum. The photo (left) shows her paying homage to Babe the Blue Ox in Bemidji, Minnesota.<\/p>\n

Her greatest claim to fame is being unable to say no to anyone who asks her to help with a community service\u00a0project, especially if it involves selling\u00a0Defeat of Jesse James Days buttons.<\/p>\n
