General Information

Tickets

No tickets are needed for general seating if Commencement is outdoors.

If Commencement is indoors due to inclement weather, all seating in Skoglund Auditorium will require tickets. Every senior participating in the ceremony will only be guaranteed three tickets. Seniors will be able to go online and select their three seats starting March 13, 2017.

Commencement ticketing will close April 28, 2017.

The commencement ceremony will be streamed on campus regardless if it is outdoors or inside.

Attendance

If you are unable to attend commencement and have not already done so, please contact Greta Fure in the Office of College Events at fure@stolaf.edu. Notice of non-participation needs to be submitted in writing. You will be announced as graduating in absentia at the ceremony. Be sure to check that you have no outstanding accounts with the Business Office, and confirm with the Registrar’s Office that your senior audit is complete and provide them with an updated address for the forwarding of your diploma.

Accessible Seating

Accessible seating is available on the Campus Green and in Skoglund Center Auditorium. Tickets for this section are required whether the ceremony is indoors or outside. Students must come to the College Events Office (Alumni Hall 160) to pick-up tickets for accessible seating.

Streaming Locations

The ceremony will be streamed to Viking Theater in Buntrock Commons, Tomson Hall 280, and Boe Memorial Chapel regardless if it is held indoors or outside. No tickets are required for these venues, but arrive early to ensure seating. An indoor ceremony also will be broadcast via campus TV Channel 15 (only available on campus).

Seating

Seating opens at 2:15 p.m. at all locations.

Location

The location of the commencement ceremony is announced at Baccalaureate (9 a.m.), posted on the college’s home page (if inside Skoglund), posted in Buntrock Commons, and available through the switchboard at 507-786-2222.

Outdoor commencement ceremonies are held on the Campus Green. No tickets are needed for general seating.

If the weather is inclement or conditions do not permit an outdoor ceremony, commencement will be held in Skoglund Auditorium. Tickets are needed for entrance; ticketed seating is held until 2:40 p.m.

We strive to hold commencement outdoors if at all possible. Please check the local weather forecasts and dress for the weather (i.e. rain gear, hats, umbrellas, water bottles, etc.). There is limited shade on the Campus Green.

Senior Rehearsal and Line Up

All seniors participating in commencement MUST meet at Tostrud fieldhouse in cap and gown with tassel on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at 2 p.m. sharp.

Rehearsal will be held in Tostrud no matter where the ceremony is held. Commencement exercises are complicated and exacting. It is extremely important that you arrive on time so you will be in the right place at the right moment to receive your diploma. During rehearsal, the marshals will talk you through the afternoon’s proceedings step by step: processing to the field, seating, handling yourself on the platform, posing for photographs, post commencement procedures, etc. Honor cords will be distributed during rehearsal and water will be available.

Cap and Gown

Seniors can pick up and pay for their cap and gown at GradFest. Tassels were included in the cap and gown packages.
