Registration for Housing and Events

Online registration begins March 18, 2019.

Registration is required for all on-campus housing, the Grad Gala, and Sunday Brunch.  We invite you to register for all other events during the weekend which are free and open to the public, including the Celebration Concert, the Illumination Ceremony, Baccalaureate, and all Academic Department Receptions (view the full event list here). Meal tickets and housing assignments will be available to pick up when you check in for Commencement Weekend.

We recommend that you include all members of your group together in one registration if possible.  Don’t forget to register your graduating senior!

If you did not register online, please visit the Registration Desk during Commencement Weekend to complete your party’s registration.  The Registration Desk is located on the first floor of Buntrock Commons and is open at the following times:

  • Saturday, May 25 – Noon to 8:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 26 – 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Frequently Asked Questions about Registration

How do I make changes to an existing registration?

Only the primary registrant on a registration will have online access to make changes.  The primary registrant will need to click on the blue button on the confirmation email labeled “Update My Registration” to make any changes to existing event selections.  If changes to on-campus housing selections (adding or canceling) are required, please contact the Events Management Office by emailing commencement@stolaf.edu or by calling (507) 786-3811 for assistance.

What is the refund policy?

Any changes to a registration that result in a refund will be honored if they are made either online or by contacting the Events Management Office no later than May 17, 2019.  We do not offer refunds after May 17, 2019.  Please contact the Events Management Office by emailing commencement@stolaf.edu or by calling (507) 786-3811 for assistance.

Where do I check in when I arrive for Commencement Weekend?

The Registration Desk is located on the first floor of Buntrock Commons.  For those arriving to campus on Saturday or Sunday of Commencement Weekend, please check in at the Registration Desk at the times listed below to pick up your name tags, schedule, event tickets, and/or housing assignments.

  • Saturday, May 25 – Noon to 8:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 26 – 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

For those arriving on Friday who registered online for or who require on-campus housing for the night, please proceed to the Front Desk at Ellingson Hall between 5 and 10 p.m. to receive your room assignment.  If your party will arrive on campus after 10 p.m. on Friday, please have your graduating senior check in for you at Ellingson Hall while the Front Desk is staffed.  All guests arriving on Friday should proceed to the Registration Desk on Saturday beginning at noon to receive their registration materials.

Is it required that each family register together on just one registration for Commencement Weekend?

It’s up to you to register in a way that you feel is most comfortable.  While we do encourage an entire party or family to register together on one registration (it helps keep registration materials together and cuts down on duplicate registrations), we do not require it.  If you prefer, you may keep your registrations separate, such as in the case of blended families or other circumstances.  We ask family members who register separately to make sure only one of the registrations includes the graduating senior.

What should I know about on-campus housing?

Rooms in Ellingson Hall with overflow in Hoyme Hall are available for family and friends who wish to stay on campus for Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday nights of Commencement Weekend. The cost is $35 per person per night. Rooms are furnished with two single beds. Bed linens (pillow, sheets, and a blanket) and towels are provided. Bathrooms are not located in your room, and these residence halls do not have air conditioning. You may wish to bring an extra blanket, hangers, an alarm clock, a fan, and sleeping bags for children wishing to sleep on the floor. Keys are not issued for individual residence hall rooms, so we encourage you to leave your valuables at home or locked in the trunk of your car.  There are no elevators in Ellingson or Hoyme Halls, so those needing accessibility should request main floor rooms.

When is the check-out time for on-campus housing?

Guests staying in Ellingson or Hoyme Halls must be out of the rooms by 11 a.m. on Monday, May 27.

Are all Commencement Weekend events free of charge?

There is no cost to attend most of the events held during Commencement Weekend with the few exceptions listed below:

  • Grad Gala:  $35 per ticket (meal plans or Ole Cards are not valid for this event).
  • Sunday Brunch:  $13 for Adults and Children age 13 or older, $7 for Children ages 6-12, Free for Children 5 years old or younger.  Graduating seniors with an active meal plan do not need to pay for this event.  Any current students who are not graduating seniors will not have a valid meal plan (and therefore will need to pay the adult cost for the brunch) unless they are scheduled to work Commencement and Reunion Weekends.
  • Residence Hall Accommodations:  $35 per night for a single bed, no cost for children sleeping on the floor or for current or graduating students who remain in their own dorm rooms for the weekend.
