and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advance a shared understanding of where we have made progress and where we need to go next.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .site-grid__col -->\n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .site-grid, .site-grid__wrapper -->\n\t<\/div> <!-- site-section__content -->\n\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t\t\t<div\n\t\t\tclass=\"site-section site-panel__wysiwyg panel panel-wysiwyg site-section__bg--default\"\n\t\t\tdata-depth=\"\"\n\t\t\tdata-js-panel=\"wysiwyg\"\n\t\t>\n\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"site-section__inner l-wrapper site-section__inner--top-padding-minimal site-section__inner--bottom-padding-none\">\n\t\n\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<header class=\"site-section__header\">\n\n\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"site-section__title site-section__title--center site-section__title--sm\" id=\"project-design-the-co-creating-cycle\" data-name=\"title\" data-livetext data-depth=\"0\" data-index=\"0\">PROJECT DESIGN:  THE CO-CREATING CYCLE<\/h2>\n\n\t\t\t<\/header>\n\t\t\n\t\n\t\n\t<div class=\"site-section__content \">\n\t\t<div class=\"site-grid site-grid__wrapper site-grid__wrapper-stagger\"\n\t\t\t data-depth=\"0\"\n\t\t\t data-name=\"columns\"\n\t\t\t data-livetext>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"site-grid__col\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"site-panel__wysiwyg-content\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"t-content \"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t data-depth=\"0\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t data-index=\"0\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t data-autop=\"true\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t data-name=\"column_content\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li><strong>C<\/strong><strong>o-creating groups<\/strong> \u2013 Faculty, staff, students, and academic and administrative leaders work with peers in 90-minute working sessions to articulate their vision for \u201cinclusive community\u201d at St. Olaf, and identify actions at every level of the college to help realize it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Synthesis\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Faculty-supervised student analysts synthesize the written reports from the co-creating groups and share the results with the campus community.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A<\/strong><strong>ction<\/strong> \u2013 The leaders of the Co-Creating initiative work with appropriate individuals, offices, departments, and student groups to respond to the collective vision and action recommendations of the co-creating groups. Some recommendations involve short-term changes that individuals and groups can readily adopt, while others concern longer-term initiatives requiring leadership, support, and coordinated implementation for systemic change.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Impact\u00a0<\/strong> \u2013 Information about the actions taken in response to the co-creating group reports, together with early information about the impact of these changes, \u00a0is reported back to the campus community.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Analysis and planning<\/strong> \u2013 Each successive Co-Creating cycle is planned in light of the outcomes of the previous cycle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION AND IMPACT<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Since January 2021, nearly 75% of St. Olaf students and 90% of faculty and staff have participated in one or more elements of the Co-Creating an Inclusive Community initiative.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Co-Creating groups<\/strong> \u2013 The Co-Creating initiative began with campus-wide <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/equity-inclusion\/anti-racism-training\/\">anti-racism training<\/a> in January-February 2021, engaging approximately 75% of the St. Olaf community. Over the remainder of Spring 2021, more than a quarter of currently enrolled students and 90% of faculty and staff participated in one of 85 different Co-Creating groups, meeting with peers to share their experiences, their vision, and their action recommendations for a more inclusive St. Olaf. Members of the Board of Regents and the Alumni Board held Co-Creating conversations as well. Groups were facilitated by trained faculty, staff, and student leaders, who prepared written reports on key themes articulated by the participants.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Synthesis \u2013 <\/strong>During Summer 2021, four student researchers led by a faculty member in Sociology\/Anthropology coded and summarized the Spring 2021 Co-Creating group reports, using the <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/equity-inclusion\/theory-of-transformation\/\">DEI Theory of Transformation<\/a> to classify the main themes. Their findings were shared with the St. Olaf community in a September 2021 virtual Community Forum attended by more than 50 students, staff, faculty, and alumni, followed by a written report available here:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/equity-inclusion\/files\/2021\/10\/Co-Creating-Research-Executive-Summary.pdf\">Spring 2021 Co-Creating Group Reports &#8211; Executive Summary<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1_sYXNvdOHsRbg_pgnP5coKmGOZKjahGz\/view?usp=sharing\">Spring 2021 Co-Creating Group Reports &#8211; Complete Analysis<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Action and impact \u2013 <\/strong>A wide variety of institutional-level actions were prompted by the Spring 2021 Co-Creating group reports. Examples include:\n<ul>\n<li>Expanded DEI professional development for faculty and staff during 2021-22 offered by the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion<\/li>\n<li>Expanded Heritage Months programming<\/li>\n<li>Development and implementation of a flexible work policy and the re-establishment of the Benefits Advisory Committee<\/li>\n<li>A faculty\/staff professional development series on \u201cCan St. Olaf be Lutheran and Inclusive?\u201d offered in January 2022 and repeated in June 2022<\/li>\n<li>The development and launch of the May 2022 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Symposium<\/li>\n<li>The establishment of faculty, staff, and student DEI awards<\/li>\n<li>The creation and staffing of a new Employee Engagement and Experience Specialist position in Human Resources, focused on onboarding, professional development, and inclusion<\/li>\n<li>The purchase of institutional memberships on <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/news\/diversity-equity-and-inclusion-update-may-20\">job boards<\/a> focused on recruiting BIPOC staff and faculty<\/li>\n<li>Significant enhancements to the student employment experience, affecting recruitment and hiring, compensation, training, supervision and mentoring, and relationships with co-workers, together with the launch of an \u201cEquity and Inclusion in the Workplace\u201d workshop for student workers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Analysis and planning<\/strong> \u2013 In addition to prompting these institutional-level actions, the Spring 2021 group reports led to the launch of a new Co-Creating cycle at the department\/office level. In Fall 2021, following training with the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion, the Co-Creating facilitators began meeting with individual departments and offices to review the reports from the Spring 2021 Co-Creating groups involving their own team members and to identify next steps within their units.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>Co-Creating an Inclusive Community <\/em><\/strong><strong>Initiative <\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Actions and Accomplishments<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Some of our actions and accomplishments include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Enrollment and College Relations<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Established working group of faculty and staff to build out a support network for Native students<\/li>\n<li>Created College 101 YouTube series for prospective students and families developed by Marketing and Communications and Admissions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Advancement<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interim Vice President for Equity and Inclusion is now a standing member of the Gift Acceptance Committee<\/li>\n<li>Engagement in a monthly DEI discussion (Piper Center)<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with the Taylor Center to offer a series of alumni panel conversations related to identity and career<\/li>\n<li>Engagement of alumni of color from the 890s during an exclusive event<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Business\/Finance Office <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support international students from a tax and compliance standpoint<\/li>\n<li>DEI topic during monthly staff meeting<\/li>\n<li>Review policies and procedures to ensure the language is inclusive and that unconscious bias is not
