In addition, we should take care of each other as we are a community and we are better together. It is important to utilize the resources that are available.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of us balance much and arrive each day on the Hill striving to do our best. I charge each one of you to meet three new members of the community.&nbsp; This can simply be done by walking across campus, standing in line at the Cage, or engaging with a group of students in Stav \u2014&nbsp; it takes less than five minutes. Remember each interaction is priceless. Community is about relationships and many of us (students, faculty, and staff) selected this fine institution simply because of this nature.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>November is a month of being thankful. It was exciting to join a place where talented faculty partnered with students on research, teaching, and study abroad opportunities. It was a rewarding chance to work closely with creative and passionate staff that do heart work to support students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>What is your definition of an inclusive community?<\/b><br \/>In essence, an inclusive community strives to create an environment where diversity is not just acknowledged, but it is seen as a source of strength, enriching the collective experience. It is a place where everyone can feel a sense of belonging and contribute to the betterment of the community, irrespective of their background or characteristics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is your leadership style?<\/strong><br \/>Situational Leadership: Situational leaders adapt their style based on the specific circumstances and the readiness of their team members. They might be more directive in some situations and more supportive in others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>November is a month of thanks. I am thankful for..<\/strong>.<br \/>My loving, supportive wife and children. And I am thankful for so many family members who sacrificed and pushed me. More information to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>New Initiative!<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Experiences of Belonging and Support on the Hill: Interviews with BIPOC Colleagues&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging are extremely important to our campus community.&nbsp; We completed the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/equity-inclusion\/co-creating\" target=\"_blank\">Co-Creating Inclusive Community<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/equity-inclusion\/co-creating\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/equity-inclusion\/co-creating\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;Initiative<\/a> last spring and shared our actions and accomplishments with the&nbsp;community in two open sessions. Unfortunately, our climate survey found that some of our BIPOC colleagues have a lower sense of belonging&nbsp;in the college community compared to other colleagues on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To explore this further, the Interim Vice President for Equity and Inclusion will conduct interviews on \u201cExperiences of Belonging and Support\u201d with BIPOC staff and faculty who have been employed at the college for at least&nbsp;6 months. This award recognizes the hard work of faculty members in bringing needed change to the College and demonstrates St. Olaf\u2019s commitment to developing a more inclusive environment that will better foster a sense of belonging in our campus community. The Faculty Life Committee wishes to thank the College and the Provost\u2019s Office for funding this award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award could recognize the work of a faculty member or a group of faculty in various campus settings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Demonstrating the importance of social justice in the classroom and stimulating conversation or action as a result.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nurturing a spirit of social justice through advising, mentoring, coaching, or other roles outside of the classroom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contributing to needed institutional change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to submit nominations&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSf9KB95W1FoljA6fiQLI4h5rL8JdWANUY64F2YC8h-xXZTcfw\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">via an online form<\/a> by November 14 at noon.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We welcome nominations from individuals, or joint nominations collaboratively written by multiple people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You may nominate a single faculty member or a group of faculty.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Self-nominations are welcome.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Information on Student Clubs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the post-affirmative action era, we will continue to support and encourage affinity groups for students, faculty, and staff.
