Additional Sources of Funding for Summer Undergraduate Research Projects
Engaging with American Families: Dr. David H. and Karen Olson Endowment for Marriage and Family.
This endowed fund supports summer research on projects related to families. Funding includes a faculty stipend, student pay, student on-campus housing and project expenses. We welcome proposals from colleagues of all disciplines in the liberal arts. Interdisciplinary projects will also be considered.
Examples of such projects include but are not limited to:
- Work-life balance in families
- Strengths/challenges of gay and lesbian families
- Parenting in immigrant families
- Strengths of cross-cultural marriage
- The state of family policy in the US
- Intimate communication
American Values and Politics: David L. & Margery Ostrom Scheie Endowment
This endowment supports research focused on American values, social issues, politics. We welcome proposals from all disciplines including interdisciplinary projects.
Examples of topics include but are not limited to:
- any project focused on using the methodological tools of a liberal arts discipline to study a crucial public issue such as climate change, poverty, health care, the economy.
- media studies (David Sheie was a prominent journalist.)
- a project that relates to integrity in government or patriotism
- a project that can help understand or inform democracy and citizenship
The Kloeck-Jenson Endowment for Peace and Justice
This endowed fund supports summer research on projects related to poverty, justice, and/or peace and violence. The context of projects can be international or domestic.
Examples of topics include but are not limited to:
- international development
- American poverty
- the causes of war
- transitions to democracy
Digital Humanities on the Hill: A Grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
This grant supports projects that significantly engage the tools and methods of digital humanities (DH) to address perennial issues and concerns characterizing humanistic research and inquiry. “Humanities” here refers to those disciplines traditionally designated as such and to related humanistic fields in the social sciences, fine arts and interdisciplinary programs.
