Intended Learning Outcomes<\/h2>\n

Students will demonstrate:<\/em><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. the ability to hear, identify, and work with musical elements: rhythm, pitch, harmony, structure, timbre, texture.<\/li>\n
  2. the ability to read and realize musical notation fluently.<\/li>\n
  3. the ability to recognize and articulate an understanding of compositional process and musical style with reference to artists, technologies, events, and cultural forces through the major periods of music history.<\/li>\n
  4. the ability to use research tools and analysis independently to develop, defend, and write musical judgments.<\/li>\n
  5. a trajectory of continuing growth in applying basic musicianship skills, independently, to the preparation of expressive performances informed by outcomes 1-3 above.<\/li>\n
  6. skill as a performer, improviser, teacher and conductor, as appropriate to the area of specialization.<\/li>\n
  7. knowledge of the history and practice of music in ecumenical worship traditions, its relationship to other sacred arts, and its relation to music in the general culture.<\/li>\n
  8. understanding, supported by and gained from practical experience, of the vocation and role of the church musician, its pastoral and theological implications, and its administrative practice.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
