Project Description<\/h2>\n

P\u00e5 gang<\/em> is a collaborative project which expands the intermediate and advanced level curricular options for English speakers interested in learning Norwegian. The need for a curriculum for Norwegian language learning that extends beyond the beginning level has been a challenge and a frequent topic of discussion since the 1980s among Norwegian instructors in North America. Currently there are very few materials available commercially to learn Norwegian, and virtually none that are web-based or involve digital learning. Since Norwegian is a small market, there is very little available from commercial publishers, particularly at the intermediate and advanced levels. With a long history of extensive Norwegian language teaching, St. Olaf College is particularly well placed to help address this dearth.<\/p>\n

DHH has supported various aspects of the larger\u00a0P\u00e5 gang<\/em> project, with development work performed by St. Olaf professors Kari Lie Dorer, Margaret Hayford O’Leary and Christine Haerter\u00a0Pi\u00f1ero.<\/p>\n

\"\"The P\u00e5 gang<\/em> project features quizzes, glossaries,\u00a0vocabulary lists, and exercises, many incorporating authentic language samples. There are also substantial materials to support the teaching of three works of Norwegian literature–Kurt, Quo Vadis<\/em> and Naiv.Super.<\/em> by Erlend Loe and Br\u00f8dre i blodet<\/em>, by Ingvar Ambj\u00f8rnsen, all popular works for learning Norwegian at the intermediate level. Over the years, the St. Olaf Norwegian Department has developed many activities to accompany these books to help students better learn and use the vocabulary, understand the themes and plots, and to connect to other things they are learning in class. These materials are now available online at paagang.com<\/a>, including quizzes, vocabulary lists, chapter summaries and assignment ideas.<\/p>\n
