Project Description<\/h2>\n

Baodingshan is a Buddhist site located in Dazu County \u5927\u8db3\u53bf, near Chongqing \u91cd\u5e86. It is half-mile long cliff face carved with over 6000 sculptures among which are intermingled both sacred and secular texts. The Baodingshan<\/a> project encompasses Prof. Kucera’s work on the topic since 1993, providing free access to a substantial collection of materials for teaching and research,\u00a0 and featuring a unique interactive scroll that allows visitors to explore the Baodingshan archaeological site and access associated images. The bi-lingual site weaves the images and texts together in a way that helps contextualize them culturally and historically, and features both Chinese transcribed texts from within the site, along with English translations.<\/p>\n

All the materials on the Baodingshan site are freely downloadable for teaching and research purposes.<\/p>\n

\"Baodingshan-six<\/a>The online resource complements Dr. Kucera’s recently published book, Ritual and Representation in Chinese Buddhism<\/em>. It utilizes the digital medium to widely disseminate new scholarly materials for teaching and research on the topic, allowing for many more images than are economically feasible in through traditional publishing.<\/p>\n
