Programs are offered during January Term, fall semester, spring semester, and during an academic year.&nbsp; There is an application process for each of these programs and courses.&nbsp; Semester and year programs tend to remain the same from year to year with some minor changes.&nbsp; January Term programs can differ based on faculty availability, budgets, and programming.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Smith Center programs can be viewed on the <a href=\"https:\/\/stolaf.studioabroad.com\/\">application database<\/a>.&nbsp; Single searches and more advanced searches can be done to find a program within a student&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/smithcenter\/by-area-of-interest\/\">area of study and interest<\/a>.&nbsp; Four popular semester\/year-long programs for economic majors include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/stolaf.studioabroad.com\/index.cfm?FuseAction=Programs.ViewProgram&amp;Program_ID=10037\">DIS in Copenhagen<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Course offerings available in economics, finance, and management studies.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students usually attend for one semester during their junior year or in the fall semester of their senior year.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\">GPA requirement is 3.0.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/stolaf.studioabroad.com\/index.cfm?FuseAction=Programs.ViewProgram&amp;Program_ID=10236\">DIS in Stockholm<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Course offerings available in economics, finance, and management studies.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students usually attend for one semester during their junior year or in the fall semester of their senior year.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GPA requirement is 3.0.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/stolaf.studioabroad.com\/index.cfm?FuseAction=Programs.ViewProgram&amp;Program_ID=10314\">IES Milan Abroad: Business Studies<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/stolaf.studioabroad.com\/index.cfm?FuseAction=Programs.ViewProgram&amp;Program_ID=10062\">Italy Today<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Most courses are taught in English and are offered on a semester basis.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students have the option to take courses at a few local universities.\u00a0 Economics, finance, and management courses are offered at the Universit\u00e1 Commerciale Luigi Bocconi and are well known for their courses in finance and economics.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Internship opportunities are also available in economics, finance, and management.\u00a0 Students cannot participate in an internship and take courses at a local university.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/stolaf.studioabroad.com\/index.cfm?FuseAction=Programs.ViewProgram&amp;Program_ID=10032\">London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Year-long, advanced competitive courses, similar to Level III St. Olaf courses offered.\u00a0 Courses count towards Level II analysis courses.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students attend during their junior year.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To apply to the program, students need to have completed or be enrolled in the two core theory courses: ECON 261 and ECON 262.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students should also complete ECON 263 or STAT 272 prior to the end of the sophomore year.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other popular programs for economics majors include <a href=\"https:\/\/stolaf.studioabroad.com\/index.cfm?FuseAction=Programs.ViewProgram&amp;Program_ID=10111\">Harris Manchester College<\/a> (Oxford University, England) and periodically offered January Term programs, such as&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/stolaf.studioabroad.com\/index.cfm?FuseAction=Programs.ViewProgramAngular&amp;id=10242\">Innovation in New Zealand<\/a>.&nbsp;<br \/>Students are unable to get credit for the \u201cCore\u201d economics courses while abroad\/away.
