In order to receive licensure, student teachers must demonstrate competencies outlined in the Standards of Effective Practice through coursework and field experiences. In this section, you will find information on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#SEP\">Standards of Effective Practice<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#SEP%20ST\">Standards Met During Student Teaching<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"gold\"><a id=\"SEP\" name=\"SEP\"><\/a>Standards of Effective Practice<\/h3>\n<p>St. Olaf College standards are based on and coded to match the Standards of Effective Practice as determined by the <a href=\"https:\/\/mn.gov\/pelsb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB)<\/a>, 1021 Bandana Boulevard East, Suite 222, St. Paul, MN 55108-5111.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">In April 2023, the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) adopted changes to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mn.gov\/pelsb\/assets\/Standards%20of%20Effective%20Practice%20-%2006.2023%20-%20Accessible_tcm1113-579957.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Standards of Effective Practice<\/a> (SEPs). The SEPs are the standards of the teaching profession; the overarching standards are listed below:<\/p>\n<div id=\"rule.8710.2000.1\" class=\"subp\">\n<ul>\n<li>Standard 1. Student Learning<\/li>\n<li>Standard 2. Learning Environments<\/li>\n<li>Standard 3. Assessment<\/li>\n<li>Standard 4. Planning for Instruction<\/li>\n<li>Standard 5. Instructional Strategies<\/li>\n<li>Standard 6. Professional Responsibilities<\/li>\n<li>Standard 7. Collaboration and Leadership<\/li>\n<li>Standard 8. Racial Consciousness and Reflection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"rule.8710.2000.8\" class=\"subp\">\n<div id=\"rule.8710.2000.8.G\" class=\"item\">\n<p class=\"item_no\">In additional to the Standards of Effective Practice that all Minnesota teachers must meet, there are subject matter standards as well. These can be found at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/rules\/?id=8710\">the Office of the Revisor of Statutes<\/a>. Scroll to find the appropriate licensure area.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"gold\"><a id=\"SEP ST\"><\/a>Standards of Effective Practice Met During Student Teaching<\/h3>\n<p>The standards met via student teaching are assessed via the CPAST, the formative and summative student teaching assessment form, and various assignments in education courses. <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1CnyT9fDSdl5DMBqfpYIiooBmwxae-4M7\/view?usp=sharing\">This document<\/a> outlines the standards introduced and assessed in each course.
