Definitions<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cAnimal\u201d for the purposes of this policy, shall mean any animal other than a human.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir human\u201d shall mean the owner or keeper of the animal.<\/p>\n

Applicable Public Law<\/b><\/p>\n

Any person bringing an animal(s) onto the property of\u00a0St.\u00a0Olaf\u00a0College\u00a0should be aware that the City Code of Northfield applies to their visit. Please refer to Part II, Chapter 10, Article II, 10-31 through 10-98 of the Northfield City Code.\u00a0\u00a0The Americans with Disabilities Act also applies as it pertains to Service Animals.<\/p>\n

Service Animals<\/b><\/p>\n

Service animals are legally defined (Americans\u00a0With\u00a0Disabilities Act) and are trained to meet disability-related needs of their handlers. Federal laws protect the rights of individuals with disabilities to be accompanied by their service animals in public places. St. Olaf will comply with all applicable laws pertaining to service animals.<\/p>\n

Animals in Buildings<\/b><\/p>\n

No animals are allowed in\u00a0St.\u00a0Olaf\u00a0College\u2019s public buildings with the exception of animals required for use in teaching and research or service animals. If the requirement for an animal in teaching or research is questioned, the Dean of the College will make a final determination. The Dean of Students has authority over the policy in the residence halls and college houses.<\/p>\n

Animals on the Grounds<\/b><\/p>\n

Animals must be leashed and under the direct control of their human. Animals running freely will be reported to the City of Northfield Animal Control Officer for pickup as provided for in the City Code.<\/p>\n

All animal feces must be picked up and properly disposed of by the associated human.<\/p>\n

Animals that are tied up and unattended are not under the direct control of their human and are also subject to pickup.<\/p>\n

Animals that are left in their human’s vehicle will be reported if they appear to be neglected or under duress from heat, inadequate ventilation, or severe cold.<\/p>\n

St. Olaf reserves the right to remove from the campus or report to the City of\u00a0Northfield Animal Control\u00a0any animal that, because of noise or other factors, is deemed a disturbance on campus. Students and employees who fail to cooperate with requests to remove their animals shall be subject to appropriate discipline.<\/p>\n
