It is the mission of Flaten Art Museum at St. Olaf College to foster an understanding of the place of the visual arts in a liberal arts education. Flaten Art Museum is integral to the Department of Art and Art History and to the interdisciplinary educational goals of the college. Through exhibitions and programs, Flaten Art Museum provides study and research opportunities for faculty, students, and the wider community of scholars. The Museum maintains the necessary environment for the preservation, exhibition, expansion, and study of the St. Olaf art collections. By borrowing and exhibiting materials from other sources, the Museum provides a broad visual and cultural experience. The Museum works with faculty across the curriculum and contributes to the dynamic cultural life of the college and of the larger community.
