Through the Piper Center, students can find more information about life after graduation from St. Olaf. They have prepared resources<\/a> profiling recent alumni from the French program, including representative First Destinations and alumni contact information.<\/p>\n

Laura Reeck ’94: authored book entitled “Writerly Identities in Beur Fiction and Beyond”<\/p>\n

Elvis Buckwalter ’00: Associate Professor at the Universit\u00e9 de Paris<\/p>\n

Briana L.M. Saunders ’00: junior officer in U.S. Foreign Service<\/p>\n

Hilary Savage ’03: received grant from French Embassy to serve as an Assistant at the Academie de Nancy-Metz<\/p>\n

Christopher Blackmon ’04: “Since graduation I’ve pursued a career in music librarianship, with a particular focus on orchestral libraries. I currently work for the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg<\/strong>, in residence at the Philharmonie Luxembourg – one of Europe’s preeminent modern concert halls. I have been here for six years, which is the longest I’ve lived anywhere since graduation. It was long enough to apply for citizenship here, which required me to learn to speak Luxembourgish! (I’ve also become moderately conversational in German.) Before moving to Luxembourg, I worked for several orchestras in the US (New World Symphony (FL), Charleston (SC), Louisville (KY)), and was the first librarian for the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra in Doha, Qatar.”<\/p>\n

Erin Beaton ’12: “During my junior year at Olaf I did the Paris J-term and spent the spring semester in Rennes, France. After graduating from St. Olaf I participated in the TAPIF program<\/strong>, teaching English in French primary schools in Blois (central France). I then became a fille au pair<\/strong> and completed a Masters degree in Cultural and Arts Management in Dijon<\/strong> (eastern France). I had internship opportunities in a castle and a medieval abbey. I recently passed a French “concours” allowing me to be a licensed English teacher in France. I am currently doing my year of student teaching in a French high school in western France, near Nantes<\/strong>. I have been living in France for over 6 years, with no plans of moving back to the US. I am essentially bilingual and well-adjusted to French life.”<\/p>\n
